Camp for Kids
During school breaks, all through the US, kids of all ages attend camps. Has your kid ever been to camp before—summer camp, spring-break camp or winter-break camp? If not, you may be pondering this option and wondering what goes into making the decision about whether or not your child is ready for camp. Below, we have listed a few of the most common questions (along with some answers that may be useful) as you start down the road of choosing a possible camp that is a good fit for your child.
What is so important about a camp for kids?
Camps come in all shapes and sizes—or rather various lengths of time and types of experiences for your child. Even though camps are different, common topics still constantly pop up when talking about the advantages of sending your kids to a camp of any kind. Generally, you want a camp to provide a safe setting where you child will gain self-confidence and discover new talents. Camp is also a place where children can—and often do—cultivate a variety of social skills (e.g., communication skills and conflict resolution ability). Camp is also a special place where kids come together to have a great time with new friends. Within the safe and monitored camp environment, children develop a sense of individuality as they try new explorations in their home away from home.
How do I know when and if my child is ready for camp?
There is no exact age that is perfect for starting your kid’s visit to camp. Making the choice about whether or not your child is ready for camp depends on the type of camp you are contemplating for your child. It is a good idea to contact the camp counselors at the camps you are considering so you can check out their views about the milestones your child should achieve before he or she attends a specific camp. Additionally, your child’s unique growth is an important key as to when your child is ready to come to Kingswood Academy or any other camp.
